Implement Traffic Management

This Nationally Recognised course will provide participants with the skills and practical knowledge to set out, monitor and close traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes in civil construction and maintenance.

It is a requirement of the Department of Transport and Main Roads QLD (TMR) that traffic management implementers renew their Qld TMI card every 3 years.

How will the course be delivered?

Face-to-Face Delivery

• Theory:

The face-to-face theory is approximately eight (8) hours. The assessment is open book and will be completed gradually throughout the day.

Practical (Industry Placement):

Learners are required to complete three (3) x Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS) setups on “live sites”.

o Practical placement set-ups can be completed in the learner’s own workplace, under the supervision of a current QLD-accredited Traffic Management Implementer (TMI).

• Third Party Report (TPR) with evidence of 3 set-ups within three (3) months post course and each TPR must be supported with:

o Signage sheets and/or TGS diagrams

o Risk assessments, pre-starts, or toolbox talks signed by the learner

• TPR setups must be as per the unit of competency requirements which includes at least two of the following:

o Lane closure,

o Lateral shift, and

o Implementing a traffic management plan at an intersection.

One of these set-ups must also include the TMI controlling construction vehicles.

What do I need to know before I enrol?

To enrol in this course, learners must:

Hold a General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or equivalent.

Have held an approved driver’s licence (provisional or open) within the last 5 years (learner licences are not accepted).

Have sound literacy skills and the ability to communicate well (desirable).

Mandatory TMR eLearning (to be completed within 3 months of attending the New Entrant TMI course:

Working in Proximity to Traffic (Part 2)

Note: These eLearning courses are completed online via the QLD Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) website. Fees apply and are paid directly to TMR by the learner.
